Micro Small Medium Enterprises Development Institute, Ludhiana (Formerly) Small Industries Service Institute Ludhiana,  is a field office of  under the "Ministry of Micro Small Medium Enterprises " Govt. of India. The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has been recognised as engine of growth all over the world .Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) development Act, 2006 (which has come into force from 02nd Oct, 2006) the Office of Development Commissioner (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) functions as the nodal Development Agency under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

. At present the State of Punjab and UT Chandigarh fall under the jurisdiction of this Institute.

The Institute provides a range of services for promotion and up-gradation of Small-Scale Industries in its jurisdiction by providing consultancy on projects and areas of investment including technical information for selection of suitable plant and machinery, manufacturing process, products designing & diversification, plant lay out preparation etc.

The Institute assists the Small Scale Enterprises in upgrading their knowledge and improving their technical skills through structured management and skill up gradation programmes.

The Institute has several Divisions and Special Cells that are working for the development and up gradation of Small-Scale units. These include the following:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical, Electronics and Computer
• Food and Agro Processing
• Bio-tech including Medicinal Plants & Micro-propagation
• Chemical Engineering including Chemical & Allied Products like Soap, Detergent, Plastics & Rubber, Paper & Cosmetics Industries etc.
• Glass & Ceramic including advance ceramic
• Hosiery and Readymade Garments and Fashion Designing
• Metallurgical Engineering including Technological Upgradation of Forging and Foundry
• Leather and Footwear including Sports Goods/Leather Garments
• Industrial Management Trainings on different subjects of Management Science including Marketing, Finance, HRD, Production Control etc.
• Statistical Data Compilation
• Economic Investigation including State/District Industrial Potential Surveys, Export - Promotion Activities.

The Institute is also operating special cells such as "Technology Resource Centre"(TRC) ,Cluster Development Programs, Modernisation and Technology Up-gradation, Pollution Control, Energy Conservation, ISO-9000, WTO, IPRs, Sub Contracting Exchange, Govt. Stores Purchase Programmes and Common Facility Centre, Engineering Workshop

The Institute also has Library Facilities with number of reference books for the use of Small Scale Entrepreneurs.
  Major functions of SISI include:

1. Providing Techno-managerial and Techno-economic consultancy services on Product and Project Selection, site selection, preparation of Project Profile/Report, Implementation of the Project and also consultancy on Domestic Marketing, International Marketing, Quality Upgradation, Packaging, advertising and Human Resource development required for small scale sector.
2. Preparation of State/District Industrial Profiles.
3. Conduct of Industrial Motivation Campaigns, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Management Development Programmes, Skill Deveopment Programmes, Techno-managerial Seminars, Open House Discussions, Interface meetings and many other such developmental activities.
4. Modernisation Programs and In-plant Studies of Small Scale Units.
5. Common facility services to SSI units through Workshop.
6. Conduct of CAD/CAM training programmes.
7. Coordination with other Central and State Govt. Organizations, such as SIDBI, NSIC, DIC, KVIB/KVIC, NABARD, Nationalised Banks, Educational Institutions for formulation and implementations of above mentioned activities and programmes.
